What We Offer For Children & Families

There is something very special that happens when a child puts on a bee suit for the first time.

You can see it in their eyes.

A mix of curiosity, nerves and excitement.

And then….. pride.

At Mrs Burney’s Bee Club, children don’t just learn about bees.

They discover confidence, responsibility and a deep respect for the natural world.

If you’re looking for an experience that builds resilience, encourages curiosity and gets children outdoors in a meaningful way, you’re in the right place.

Weekly Junior Bee Club Sessions

Our weekly sessions are designed to give children hands-on experience with bees in a safe, structured and supportive environment.

Children learn:
🐝 How a hive works
🐝 The role of the queen, workers and drones
🐝 How to handle frames carefully and calmly
🐝 Why bees are essential for our environment
🐝 How honey is made and harvested.

More importantly, they learn how to:
🐝 Stay calm and focused
🐝 Work as part of a team
🐝 Take responsibility
🐝 Overcome fear
🐝 Respect living creatures

We work in small groups, so every child is supported and heard. Protective clothing is provided, and safety is always our priority.

These sessions run during term time and are suitable for children aged 8+.

‘My kids have loved Bee Club and it is one of their favourite activities they do outside of school. They have learnt so much and have a much greater appreciation of the importance of bees in our natural world.’

Holiday Bee Days

Our holiday sessions are immersive, exciting and packed with practical activities.

Children may:
🐝 Open a hive and inspect frames
🐝 Spot the queen
🐝 Taste honey from the apiary
🐝 Take part in bee-themed crafts
🐝 Learn through games and outdoor exploration

These days are ideal for children who love being outside and are curious about nature.

No prior experience is needed — just a willingness to learn.

‘My child had an amazing day at holiday club yesterday – learnt so much about beekeeping and has come home absolutely full of enthusiasm and wanting to attend the weekly Club! Absolutely recommend.’

Family Bee Experiences

Sometimes the most powerful experiences are shared.

Family sessions allow parents and children to explore the hive together, ask questions and learn side by side. They’re not just for families either! Any group of up to 6 people (aged 5 and up) can come as long as there is at least one supervising adult.

Your family will:
🐝 Discover how a bee colony works
🐝 Understand the role of the different bees in the hive
🐝 Get on a bee suit and gloves
🐝 See inside a working bee hive
🐝 Have the opportunity to hold a frame of bees

Many parents tell me they feel just as inspired as their children.

These sessions are relaxed, supportive, and refreshments are available throughout the session.

A Family Bee Experience is £140

‘We spent a wonderful morning learning about bees and sampling the honey. Thoroughly enjoyable for everyone in our group, from the youngest (aged five) to the oldest (70+). I would definitely recommend this!’

Why Parents Trust Bee Club

Working with bees naturally builds confidence — but only when it is done safely and thoughtfully.

I have many years of experience working with children and bees, and safety underpins everything we do.

🐝 Full protective suits are provided
🐝 Clear safety guidance is given before every hive visit
🐝 Small group sizes ensure careful supervision
🐝 Risk assessments and insurance are in place

But beyond safety, what parents often tell me is this:

Their child comes home taller.
More confident.
More curious.
More aware of the world around them.

The impact reports from recent programmes show improvements in:
🐝 Confidence
🐝 Focus
🐝 Teamwork
🐝 Emotional regulation
🐝 Environmental awareness

Bee Club isn’t just an activity.

It’s a place where children grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my child is nervous?

That’s completely normal. We move at each child’s pace. No one is ever forced to approach the hive until they feel ready.

What if my child has been stung before?

We discuss any concerns beforehand and ensure parents complete medical information prior to sessions.

Do children get stung?

Stings are very rare due to protective clothing and calm handling techniques. Children are carefully supervised at all times and staff are fully first aid trained.

What should my child wear?

For outdoor sessions long trousers and wellies are recommended. Full bee suits and gloves are provided.

What happens if the weather is poor?

We adapt sessions accordingly and have alternative learning activities available when needed. Our family bee experiences can be rearranged if there is poor weather on the day.

Where are you located?

Our apiary is located at Frylands Scout Centre, where there is parking available.
